When I looked at the photos of the museum I immediately imagined it immersed in fog, in a cold, minimalist environment. I liked the idea of recreating a painting, something that had to do with the purpose for which the building was created. I wanted to recreate accurately the location and the surroundings. I looked on the internet what really exists and I didn’t change the overall environment.
The general idea is to consider the building as a work of art and the final image has to tell a story. So I used a long lens with DOF and I put the focus on the building to give importance to the subject. The image has cold colors and a minimal environment in harmony with the architecture and the materials. The only parts with warm lights are the street lights of the walkway leading to the building and the interior of the exhibition halls, like warm is the experience that visitors live in the museum.
The complexity was to make an image with strong impact without distorting the reality. The simplicity of the architectural structure made even more difficult the challenge because it does not give many opportunities for light and dark contrasts and framing choices.
